Reflecting on my writing practice

· soft sounds

I don’t remember when I first started writing (and keeping what I wrote), but I suspect it was around grade five or six. Around that time I would write a lot of fan fiction. Usually Megaman, but there was also a stretch of time where I would write Sonic fan fiction as well. These would be (what I assume) run of the mill poorly written stories about heroes engaging in battle with whatever I was interested in. In Megaman it would be robots obviously, and in my sonic stories he would be fighting alongside tails beating Dr.Robotnik, or occasionally knuckles. God knows why I hated knuckles, but hated I did. I miss these stories. I believe I had them till we moved around grade eight or nine.

After this point outside of writer’s craft in grade eleven I stopped writing fiction and moved onto non fiction. See my mind currently is (and probably has always been) a sieve. Ideas, notions, plans, goals, and responsibilities all flow right through. What’s left, or caught in the sieve is just a ghost of a feeling that something was there. So to counteract this I write. I write a lot of lists, and notes. Notes embedded within lists. Lists of lists of lists. I really do love lisp. I mean lists. That is to say I’ve filled up my fair share of notebooks with notes and lists.

Notes!!

It is late and I didn’t feel like getting up and finding more but those are some of my notebooks. Some hidden among my books, and others just chilling around. While I have mostly moved over to digital I still love the act of writing on paper. I carry around two smaller notebooks with me everywhere I go. One field notes (because they’re king), and one small ringed notepad. I’m pretty sure it’s from Muji.

These are for times where taking a voice note would be embarrassing, and/or I’m out and about. As a side note, these are very good for grocery lists.

It’s great having all these notes, but as you can see by how I “organize” them, there is no structure to speak of. I’ve attempted to rectify that digitally. I’ll go into depth about this later on.
